ProfiPulse is a low cost tool to assist with the validation of installed PROFIBUS DP cable. It can verify if the cable is suitable for the required transmission speed.
When an installer has finished the cable assembly, he will in most cases test it with a handheld tool. These tools can only check the static faults, but not the high speed dynamic behaviour (noise, reflections, signal corruption). Can the cable transfer the information with a certain transmission speed? Are the signals good enough to keep an installation running for the coming years? To make sure the dynamic behaviour is acceptable, ProfiPulse is the solution!
Functionality
After selecting a baudrate between 9.6 kbit/s to 12 Mbit/s, the software generates 1/0 pulses on the cable by means of the ProfiCore USB communication processor. With an external oscilloscope the user has to examine if the signal shapes are acceptable. During operation the baudrate or pulse settings can be changed on the fly in order to perform a quick and easy validation. It is also possible to set the signal to a fixed high/low level.
